While other companies and universities are struggling to squeeze an extra two or three gallons out of their process, 3F Inc’s system will outperform conventional waste-to-ethanol systems by 250% and other algae-based bio-diesel systems by 355%.  And, 3F is currently developing the technology for proven techniques that improve ethanol production yield again by another 173%, and bio-oil yield from algae by another 300%.  So, while corn ethanol profits often averages 4¢ per gallon produced, 3F Inc’s systems are defined to make between 28¢ and 84¢ per gallon depending on the biorefinery installed.  That means 3F Inc Biofuels can offer its Economically Sustainable and Environmentally SoundSM fuels at a lower MPG price than environmentally costly petroleum substitutes during peak summer demand when the cost to consumers tend to run high.

3F Inc’s bio-fuel facility generates a mere 2.6% emissions compared to conventional ethanol production, while removing over a half a metric tonne of carbon dioxide for every gallon of ethanol produced from garbage and waste water.  For 3F Inc’s Hybrid Ethanol and Biodiesel Production SystemSM is not dependent upon any fossil fuel for its production.  3F Inc’s system makes full use of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) from the pulp and biogas left over from the ethanol process, while supplimenting its feedstock transportation with bio-diesel, in addition to exporting excess clean water and clean renewable energy.

Technical Indicators

Some like to look at the energy balance as an indicator of economic sustainability.  One of the pushes for bio-fuels is the concern that petroleum will require more energy to extract from oil pockets than what is gotten out of them when global oil peaks (thereby exceeding its equalibrium state).  The logic behind this suggests that if there is any significant energy gain, then the economics will follow.  This table shows the energy expenditures used in supply transport and other pre-production activities for ethanol, along with its production energy spent for various types of processes.  The Energy Balance is the ratio of energy gained over energy spent (EROEI).  A moderate gain in energy after all expenditures is above 3 points, and healthy is 4 or more.

*Energy Balances shown in the chart compares like numbers.  3F’s process makes in excess of 130.6M gallons of bio-oil for bio-diesel, and JP8 grade jet-fuel, utilizing solar and bio-diesel as its energy source.  This means a net energy gain of 164.5 BTUs per gallon of ethanol in fuel products for sale.  This is over and above ethanol production, yielding a net energy gain that qualifies for carbon credits.  This calculation also does not include the energy found in bio-gas, wind power, and wood pellets offered for sale.

 

**3F’s ethanol energy expenditures are offset by one to three of its five energy products that it produces.  The system’s thermal requirements can be met with bio-diesel, bio-gas, or wood pellets.  Bio-diesel is used for these calculations.  The net energy balance for 3F’s ethanol is between 4.2 to 8.65 times over energy expended (EROEI) at peak efficiency, depending upon installed, custom components.  3F Inc’s process has an overall negative energy use of -138.2 BTUs per gal. of ethanol produced.
